The Local Area

The following information highlights the sights and places to visit around Nerja as well as restaurants and bars to spend your holiday evenings.

Nerja
  • A taxi to and from Nerja town will cost you approximately 11-12 (no more than 15) Euros each way and is a an approx a 7 minute journey by car.
  • There are 2 main car parks in Nerja Town Centre. One is underground near the “Balcon de Europa” (a lovely area and popular with tourists) and the other is called the Parador. Both of these are paying car parks now!
  • Be careful where you park! The Nerja police love to tow away vehicles and impound them at the local police station and its expensive to get out.
  • Otherwise you can park on the road if you can find a space.
Restaurants
  • Bar 34, Cala Basa, Olivia and Scarletts (roof terrace) are all in the main town and serve lovely food (A la Carte).
  • Little Italy serves very economical pizza and pasta.
  • Very in expensive is “La Fabrica “it’s small and owned by a French lady she is very welcoming it is slightly out of the tourist part of town near the Rui Monica Hotel.
  • Studantwerpen on the beach is excellent, it is owned by a Dutch family and their stir fries are wonderful.
  • Bakers Bar is also on the beach front and serves good food at night and of course sport.
  • Ayos (with the orange triangle on the actual beachfront) is very famous for their Paella and has a great Spanish atmosphere, it’s cheap but they are not open at night, they don’t need the money!
  • Beach bar Ricon is lovely for drinks after a beach day
  • There are many good restaurants in Nerja town and the beach area “Burrianna” as well as the surrounding areas
  • Torrox Costa is the closest town (can be walked to if desired) and has a promenade, with many restaurants
  • There are also two very Spanish restaurants on the beach at the bottom of the hill from the house and a couple of small bars (this is the nearest beach and not so busy!)
  • It is a good idea to book on a Friday or Saturday to avoid disappointment, especially in high season

There are literally hundreds of other places that can be found. There are some cards in the unit in the lounge and sample menus for you to choose.

Shopping
  • There are many shops - some very touristy and others interesting in the old town of Nerja, the nearest big shopping complex is back on the motorway towards Malaga about 15 minutes away, exit at Velez Malaga. Here you will find shoes, Zara and a massive hypermarket etc good choice if it’s really raining! (Not open on Sundays!)
  • The nearest is on the main road in Torrex but there are many including a Lidals, however the closer to the main areas the more expensive they tend to be.
  • REMEMBER THAT THERE ARE NO SHOPS OPEN ON A SUNDAY OR SAINTS DAYS SO GET YOUR SUPPLIES IN!
Things To Do
  • TNERJA CAVES - Follow sign posts for Maro heading away from Nerja eastwards, they close for lunch as do most thing for the Siesta between 2 and 5pm except for the big shopping centre.
  • MALAGA OLD TOWN.
  • TORROX PUEBLO & TORROX COSTA
  • COMPETA & COMARES - both villages in the Andalucía Mountains.
  • GRANADA - About an hour away. Alhambra Palace is well worth the visit, tickets need to be pre booked but can be done on the internet.

Directions from the Airport

Once you have collected the car from Malga car.com (or your choice of car hire) you will need to come out of the Airport and go left around the roundabout so that the San Miguel Factory is on your right hand side.

Continuing straight, do not take the first slip / exit on the right (if you are travelling towards Marbella you are going the wrong way!)

Follow the road around and up and over the fly over bridge, this road is called the N340 (A7) the road loops a couple of times but continue to follow the signs for Motril and Almeria as you leave Malaga City stay on this road all the way to Torrox Costa where you will make your exit (approx 35-45 mins depending on the traffic).

Then turn left after the slip road and head towards the coast going straight at the roundabout following the signs for Torrox Costa.

When you reach the high street there will be a furniture shop opposite on the far side of the roundabout, turn left at this roundabout and drive straight along this road over a couple of smaller roundabouts (with the sea on your right), until you see a Blue triangle and a sign for Torrox camping

This is opposite a couple of beach restaurants by the blue cross.

Turn left here, up the hill and continue all the way to the top where you will see the row of white townhouses you have reached your destination. ENJOY.
